One Giant Leap Australia Foundation will be sending wattle seeds to the International Space Station this November in collaboration with JAXA. The seeds will be in space for 6 months and then return to Australia in time for Science Week 2021.

Supported by the Australian Space Agency, the ‘What’ll happen with the wattle??!’ program is being offered to 150 schools across Australia.

How to apply

Complete the official application form and submit the video, agreeing to the terms and conditions.

Once selected

The selected schools around Australia will receive wattle seeds that have been flown to space as well as seeds that have not. The seeds are from the same seed lot. These seeds will them be germinated and grown, with data being uploaded to the ‘What’ll happen to the wattle??!’ app.

There will be teleconferences and other education support materials provided for the duration of the program. A small greenhouse, growing medium and all material will be provided to schools. The cost of this kit will be $200 (ex GST).

The project will take at least a year and it is envisaged that the wattle will then be planted and a map be made of all the ‘space wattle trees’ around Australia.

This is a first for Australia. Be part of history!
